Cefamandole nafate (Cefamandole formate sodium) is a second-generation broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic. In bacteriological media, it is rapidly converted to cefamandole, with a half-life of less than 1 hour at a pH of 7.0 or above. At pH 6.0, in log-phase inhibition experiments, Cefamandole nafate exhibits greater stability, which allows for the differentiation of activity between cefamandole and cefamandole nafate. Rat studies showed no adverse effects on growth, food consumption, clinical chemistry, hematology, or organ weights.
- Second-generation broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic.
- Rapidly converted to cefamandole in bacteriological media at pH 7.0 or above.
- More stable at pH 6.0 in log-phase inhibition experiments.
- Soluble in water (175 mg/mL) and PBS (100 mg/mL).
- Unstable in solutions; freshly prepared solutions are recommended for use.
